The Sun and the Moon

The sun and the moon are powerful symbols of birth, light, and energy. Explore how cultures from around the world draw artful inspiration from these celestial bodies. Create your own artwork inspired by the sun and the moon. Enjoy music from the age of the Sun King performed by The Silver Swan Consort of Viols. Plus, enjoy stellar stories and performances that are out of this world. Free and open to the public.

Chinese Lantern Festival

Welcome the Year of the Ox with a fabulous celebration! See lion dances and other festive performances of the New Year. Make a paper lantern and join a parade of lanterns. Create a traditional good-luck envelope to give to a friend. Plus, enjoy pipa music by renowned musician Gao Hong and explore the MIA’s fabulous collection of Chinese art. Free and open to the public.

Birds, Snakes, and Flying Foxes

Discover the art of the Asmat of New Guinea and other Pacific Island cultures. Learn about animal and nature symbols as you create your own replica of an Asmat shield. Try out the drum on the Pacific Island Art Cart and get your passport stamped while you’re there.

Plus, don’t miss great performances and a fun-filled gallery hunt that will take you into the special exhibition “Time and Tide: The Changing Art of the Asmat of New Guinea,” on view in U.S. Bank Gallery.

Land and Seas, Fields and Trees

Dance Revels Moving History will perform dances inspired by the American landscape and Minnesota history.

Recreate the misty effects of tonal landscape painting in a hands-on art studio.

Plus, explore the special exhibition "Noble Dreams & Simple Pleasures: American Masterworks from Minnesota Collections," on view in Target Gallery.
