SORRY! We’re going to change the date for the MNBeer.com 2.5 Year Anniversary one last time! In an effort to avoid overlapping with Gitchee Gummee, we inadvertently scheduled the even the night before Easter. That didn’t fly with some people, so now the official date is April 18th. Solid. Really. I promise.
Surly will be raffling off 2 pairs of Vikings playoff tickets today (Saturday, January 3) at Stub & Herb’s. One pair will be raffled at 4:00, the other at 10:30. Look for Jim and Beaner.
I wish I had time to visit Duluth and the Brewhouse…
Brewhouse Beer Releases:
Amsterdam Ale - hybrid pils/pale Belgian style beer. Soft pils notes with strong fruit esters and a dry finish [this beer is well-loved by at least some of the MNBeer.com staff]
Cask Brewhouse Pub Ale - English style light cream ale
Red Star & Burrito Union Beer Releases
Farmhouse Special Reserve - Farmhouse is a Belgian style saison ale. Fermers and rural folks traditionally brewed saisons in the spring for fall and winter drinking. We brewed our Farmhouse as holiday ale this year, adding ginger, coriander, grains of paradise and sweet orange peel. The light color and body hides a complex beer with many flavors and a dry finish.
Tonight at Flat Earth starting at 3:30 pm, you can buy growlers of the following:
Angry Planet Pale Ale
Cygnus X-1 Porter
Oatmeal Stout
Unfiltered Belgian Pale Ale
Winter Warlock Barley Wine
Special Porters
Big Money oak aged porter
Limited amounts of the following have been recreated for tonight!
Star Man Porter - Star Anise Infused
Xanadu Porter - Orange infused porter
Red Barchetta - Cherry infused porter
The Trees Porter - Hazelnut infused porter
Mystic Rhythms Porter - Raspberry infused porter
Hold Your Fire Porter - Peppers infused porter
Snow Dog Porter - Peppermint infused porter
The Blue Door Pub congratulates Gerson Gerald on winning the first B.O.M. Builder contest for his Frenchy Blucy. While the other contenders were all more than worthy of the title, Gerson edged out the others with some strong support.
The Frenchy Blucy: Cheese and onions in the middle with a side of aus jus, this is a terrific spin on the old sandwich classic!
Stay tuned for an email blast about when you can come in and try the Frenchy Blucy for yourself. If you haven’t subscribed to their newsletter yet, get to it!
Again, congratulations Gerson on a well built Blucy!

Also for a limited time, pick up some of their new 22 oz pint glasses for just $5 each.
Vine Park will be open Monday the 29th 4-8 pm and Tuesday the 30th Noon-8 pm for growler sales. They will be closed Dec 31 and Jan 1.
I rolled into the office today and found the January issue of Metro magazine in my mailbox. First, Lift Bridge Brewery made the Metro5. Definitely a nice nod for the brewery, though I’ll have to disagree, respectfully, with the writer who mentions that Farm Girl Saison is reminiscent of New Glarus Spotted Cow.
Secondly, Laura Mullen, who many of you know from Winterfest, Autumn Brew Review, Arborfest, etc. was featured as well.
Nice press guys… it doesn’t look like these pieces are online yet, but they’re in the January issue of Metro. Enjoy!
Mark your calendars. Make arrangements for a sober cab. Feed the dog and then come on down to Stub & Herb’s on Saturday, April 18th, at about 8pm. Enjoy a local beer, chat with the folks that bring you MNBeer.com and have a good local beer with other great people! More details forthcoming. Suffice to say that you’ll have a good time!
Mark your calendars for 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 7th. The event takes place at the Ritz Theater at 13th and University Avenue, NE in Minneapolis. And don’t forget to vote for your favorite! I’m still pimping “GRAAAINS!” cuz zombies just seem like a perfect compliment to beer. How? I’m not sure, but I’m sticking with it…
